Albert “Al” Smith is a dedicated public servant, educator, military veteran, and community leader committed to building a stronger, safer, and more prosperous Galveston County.
A proud graduate of Texas Southern University, Albert earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education before completing a Master’s Degree in Special Education Administration from Prairie View A&M University. He devoted 15 years to serving as an educator, advocating for students with diverse learning needs and supporting families with compassion and integrity.
Albert “Al” Smith proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps with the 10th Marine Regiment at Camp Lejeune, where he developed the values of leadership, discipline, accountability, and service that continue to guide him today.
Albert “Al” Smith is also an active member of the Rotary Club of Texas City, working alongside community leaders to promote service, strengthen local partnerships, and improve the quality of life for families throughout the region.
With a lifetime of service in education, the military, and the community, Albert “Al” Smith is ready to lead Galveston County with integrity, experience, and a vision for a brighter future.

Albert “Al” Smith will serve as the Galveston County Judge, presiding over the Galveston County Commissioners Court and overseeing the County’s annual budget.
As County Judge, he will serve as the County’s chief administrator and Director of Emergency Management, providing leadership on public safety, fiscal responsibility, and disaster preparedness. Albert “Al” Smith is committed to all cities in Galveston County, including, League City, Texas City, Friendswood, Santa Fe, Dickinson, La Marque, Santa Fe, Kemah, Tiki Island, Bacliff, Crystal Beach and Jamaica Beach.
As a dedicated member of the Texas City community, Albert “Al” Smith is committed to expanding opportunity and ensuring that county resources reach historically underserved neighborhoods. His vision for Galveston County includes strengthening economic growth while improving access to essential services for all residents.
As County Judge, Albert “Al” Smith recognizes that strong families are the foundation of thriving communities. He will work to increase the availability of quality housing by supporting the development of new housing opportunities throughout the community.
